Why apprenticeships work wonders for Phoenix Children's Foundation

Phoenix Children's Foundation, in Ibstock, Leicestershire, supports a wide range of worthy causes, as well as using the Apprenticeship programme to provide exciting employment opportunities for local young people.

Charity founder Anita Withers said: "Apprenticeships work well for our business – Darren from Heart of England Training has organised recruitment for us and Gemma provides great training and back-up during the programme."

Phoenix currently employs four apprentices ranging from Business and Administration, Customer Service, Team Leading, and Management courses.

Leanne Brindley, who has recently completed a Business and Administration Apprenticeship said: "Gemma is fantastic. Doing my Apprenticeship has given me the confidence to start training as a teacher in September. Anita has been great, too – she's letting me reduce my hours so that I can attend college."

The Phoenix Children's Foundation raises money to provide disabled and severely ill children throughout the UK with equipment and therapeutic activities. The aim is to help these children with their physical and mental development in order to enhance the quality of their lives.
The charity relies entirely on the generosity of the public for its funding. One of the policies of the charity is to endeavour, where possible, to allocate funding to support the disabled and severely ill children in the area in which it is raised.
The charity has a number of Shetland ponies, primarily used as petting ponies for disabled and sick children when visiting children's hospices and special needs centres. These tiny ponies are adored by both children and adults alike and bring joy to everyone who comes into contact with them; they help us enormously in our local fundraising efforts.
