100,000 grant aid for groups

Projects ranging from a village hall renovation to new fitness equipment have been helped by grants from a community fund.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council has set aside money since 2002 to distribute to parish groups in the area.

A total of 104,130 was given out this year to 21 different community projects.

A maximum grant of 12,000 was awarded to only one project, which was Bagworth Community Centre and was part of a wider scheme to extend the premises.

Other grants of more than 11,000 were agreed to add a third tennis court to Sport in Desford, provide new equipment at Stanton under Bardon recreation ground and provide outdoor gym equipment at Quarry Park, Groby.

Groby Parish Council clerk Beverley Greenwood said: "It will be brilliant.

"We have got some equipment there already, three swings and a multi-play unit, but we wanted something that would appeal to ages from about 11 to the 80s. We wouldn't have been able to have this equipment without this grant."

Barwell Parish Council received 6,408 towards a new pavilion and parking at Dovecote Way recreation ground, and there was 5,592 for another Barwell project, to provide a garden at the George Ward Community Centre.
