The Welsh Ambulance Service was called to the scene on the A4068, Gwilym Road,in Cwmllynfell, at around 11.20 yesterday morning. Witnesses say that the pedestrian suffered serious leg injuries and was treated at the scene before being taken to Swansea's Morriston Hospital for further treatment.
One female member of staff from a local pharmacy said: "Some of us went outside to see what happened, and the local First Responders were there to comfort her until the air ambulance arrived. It seemed like she walked out into the road in front of a bus. She was still able to talk but was clearly hurt."
The road, in the Upper Swansea Valley, was closed for more than an hour, while emergency services dealt with the incident.
