Vandals must be dealt with

What on earth have we come to?

You can only imagine the kind of heartache the sheer, wanton vandalism at Swansea's Penybryn Special School has created.

Of course, it is one of countless acts of loutishness and vandalism many of which go unreported and unpunished every year.

But we musn't allow any of them to go unrecorded. And certainly, this kind of criminal damage and general unpleasantness must never become 'normalised'.

What we do hope is that if those responsible are ever caught, they are dealt with in an appropriate way rather than them walking away from court laughing with a pretty meaningless caution or a toothless Asbo.

Too many decent, law-abiding people are still having their lives ruined by louts such as those to blame for this latest incident.

It will take determination and political will to throw policies into reverse and inject some steel back into the justice system.

But we must not let down those individuals and places such as Maytree subjected to this kind of torment down. Decent folk deserve better, they really do.
