TV ad opera star Wynne Evans for Llanelli music festival

MUSIC fans will be able to "Go Compare" a range of styles and genres when Parc y Scarlets holds its first ever pop concert later this month.

Wynne Evans, the Carmarthenshire born tenor famous for his TV adverts, is the latest act unveiled to line up alongside girl band sensations The Saturdays and the UK's most talked about rap artist Wretch 32 on Saturday, May 21.

Thrilled

The 39-year-old from Carmarthen, who plays the opera singer with a curly moustache in the price comparison website adverts, saw his debut new opera album A Song In My Heart at the top of the charts in April.

The dad of two, who has become a well-known face through his Italian character Gio Compario, said: "I'm thrilled and amazed. I really enjoy doing the ads and when I meet kids in the street they shout out 'Gio!' They don't know my real name.

"But I've been on the opera scene for over 15 years and to jump to the top of the classical charts with my first album has got to be one of the most amazing moments of my career."

Of his starring role in the Llanelli gig, entitled Enjoy 2011, he said: "I really do love performing in Wales. I have performed in opera houses throughout the world and nothing compares to singing in my homeland — I'm grateful to the people of Wales for their support and look forward to performing at Parc y Scarlets."

Organisers say with 4,000 tickets already sold for Parc y Scarlets' first ever major music event, the "boost of securing one of the most talked about global rap stars alongside the leading UK girl band and now chart topping classical star will widen the festival's appeal even further".

Held in association with Scarlet FM, Radio Pembrokeshire and Radio Ceredigion, Enjoy 2011 is the first all-music event to be held at the stadium and looks set to be a sell-out.

Scarlets commercial director Rupert Moon said: "Enjoy 2011 now has three very different artists secured and there will be more names to join this list — all three are the very best at what they do so it really it going to be quite a show and not to be missed."
