New York - Stocks are set for a slightly higher opening as investors await more earnings from US companies.

Caterpillar and Merck each beat earnings forecasts for the first-quarter. Chevron is also releasing its results on Friday.

Caterpillar, the world's largest maker of mining and construction equipment, also raised its forecast. The company is closely watched on Wall Street because it is a bellwether of the global economy.

Ahead of the opening, Dow Jones industrial average futures are up 14, or 0.1 percent, at 12,722. Standard & Poor's 500 futures are up 2, or 0.1 percent, at 1,357. Nasdaq 100 futures are up 2, or 0.1 percent, at 2,403.

Stocks closed at another 2011 high Thursday despite modest U.S. economic growth in the first quarter. - Sapa-AP
