Final frantic day of campaigning before candidates hand keys to voters

TODAY is the last full day of campaigning before the polls open tomorrow morning.

The four main parties, smaller groups and independents have been canvassing for your vote for the past five weeks, trying to cover as much of the country as possible.

And the momentum has not stopped as Plaid members were in Swansea yesterday pledging their support to create new jobs and Labour Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls visited the Welsh capital to promote his party's message.

He said: "Our message is clear this Thursday: only a vote for Labour can help secure a Welsh Labour Government that will stand up for Wales.

"A vote for Plaid or the Lib Dems risks letting the Tories through the back door. Just look what happened with Nick Clegg last year. We've seen the damage they're doing in Whitehall. The last thing Wales needs is Tory ministers running the Assembly too."

Meanwhile the Liberal Democrats have continued to expose Labour and Plaid's "wasteful" spending up until the last minute.

Following the successful March 3 referendum, the next Assembly will be able, for the first time, to pass its own laws in 20 devolved fields. Politicians in The Senedd, the Assembly's debating chamber, are keen to push the envelope further — ranging from Plaid's calls for Wales to have its own criminal justice system to the Conservatives' plan to scrap business rates for small firms.

Plaid's local candidates, Darren Price, Carl Harris and Dic Jones, who were in Swansea yesterday, said: "Wales faces a 41 per cent cut to capital budgets over the coming years — these cuts were already planned by the previous Labour government and will be delivered by the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats at an even faster pace. Capital spending is what delivers new schools, hospitals, roads and other infrastructure projects.

"The choice on Thursday is clear — the economy can either move forward with Plaid or stand still under Labour."

Whereas the Tory leader Nick Bourne has proclaimed his is the party of small businesses.

He said: "Small businesses are the key to our future prosperity and need to be supported so we can create new jobs and stimulate economic growth."
