Great adventure back on track after illness

Adventurer Sarah Outen is back on track in her epic journey around the world – after being hit by a bout of food poisoning.

Sarah, who left England on April 1 to row, kayak and cycle her way around the globe spent the past week cycling from Prague in the Czech Republic to Ukraine, passing through the Polish city of Krakow.

The trip had been delayed due to illness.

Writing in her blog, the 25-year-old, from Oakham, said: "After being wiped out by food poisoning the week before last in the Czech Republic and having taken a few days out to recover, I am now back in the groove and feeling good.

"On Tuesday morning, it rained and rained in the south of Poland, leaving me soaked as I twiddled my way up winding roads and over the hills. It all reminded me of North Wales – pretty scenery viewed in varying shades of green and grey.

"Thankfully the next morning I woke to a hot tent. It hasn't really stopped shining since, meaning the days have been long and hot and I have been happiest riding in the cool of dusk.

"There tend to be fewer cars out then, too, and often lots of wildlife."

On Friday, Sarah watched the royal wedding from Krakow but she said she was finding little time to enjoy the various countries she passed through.

She said: "I am keen to push on and crack out some big mile days now.

"So far, I have pedalled between 45 and 160km a day – or nothing on the rest and recovery days – with that distance varying according to the weather, terrain, chores and how I've been feeling."

In total, the London 2 London: Via the World trip will take Sarah 20,000 miles

She hopes to reach Kazakhstan, which borders the south of Russia, by the end of this month.

From there, her route takes her through China and back into Russia before cycling and paddling her way to Japan.

She will then row solo across 5,000 miles of the North Pacific in her tiny rowing boat, Gulliver, and then cycle from Vancouver, in Canada, to New York before rowing solo home across the North Atlantic.

Gulliver is being built in Devon at the moment.

Sarah will end the trip back at Tower Bridge, in London, where she began, in summer 2013 after 850 days travelling, including 11 months at sea.
