Residents in Barwell are being asked to nominate people to appear in the village's very own version of a Walk of Fame.

I came up with the idea when trying to think of something that could be part of the ongoing Pride in Barwell campaign, which is seeking to restore morale and pride in the village after a period of bad publicity for the area in recent years.

But we need the people of Barwell to get behind the idea and get involved. We are looking for residents of the village – past or present – to send in their nominations for our Walk of Fame.

Residents can nominate anyone who has lived in Barwell or who has a connection to the village.

It can be someone who has done great things for the community, gives their time tirelessly to help others, or achieved in an area against the odds.

Nominations can be an individual or a group, living or dead, who has either achieved great things for people in the village or who has gone on from it to do great things, such as Barwell-raised goalkeeper Chris Kirkland who now plays football for Wigan Athletic.

To enter, send us need your name, the name of the person or people you are nominating, and write a few lines to tell the judges why you would like to see them on the walk of fame.

Nominations can be taken along to the Barwell Community House, or made by e-mailing: mathew@barwell.eu or
