? Manager says striker 'will improve and will score'
? Spaniard has played five games without a goal
The Chelsea manager, Carlo Ancelotti, is confident that the striker Fernando Torres will score soon. The 50m signing drew another blank at Blackpool on Monday.
Chelsea won 3-1 with two goals from Frank Lampard and one from John Terry. Jason Puncheon scored a late consolation for Blackpool. Torres, who was playing up front with Didier Drogba, never looked like scoring and he has now played five matches, a total of 406 minutes, since his deadline-day move from Liverpool in January and has failed to register a goal.
"He is showing good movement; he showed good movement with Drogba in the first half," said Ancelotti. "I think they played well, it was a good combination at the start of the game. I didn't ask them to play closer, I wanted them to spread the Blackpool defence. It is important he works for the team and he is doing that now and game by game he will improve and he will score. We are happy about his performance. He is a top scorer and he will score, this is not a problem."
Chelsea are now within nine points of the Premier League leaders, Manchester United, with a game in hand.
"Our aim at this moment is to stay in the top four," said Ancelotti. "We are closer to Manchester United but we have to prepare for the next game and prepare game by game. Now we have nine points and another game [in hand] against Birmingham but it is too far to think we can come back in to fight for the title. To take it game by game is easier for us."
The Blackpool manager, Ian Holloway, whose side have won once in nine matches and are two points above the relegation zone, was disappointed with the result but not his side's performance.
"We are a bit sore because we didn't feel we deserved that, we didn't deserve to be more than two goals away from them," he said. "We needed something to give us a bit of belief, we needed the second goal in the game but unfortunately they got it. Frank Lampard said they were not on their game but they beat us."
