Villagers seek help for baby without arms, legs

Residents of the village of Sandigalua in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State have appealed to the state government to come to the aid of a baby girl born without arms and legs.

Daily Trust gathered that the two week-old little Fatima was born to a family of a peasant farmer, Ahmadu Didda and his wife Rukayya on Tuesday, January 13.

The father said Fatima was delivered at home, saying the mother and the baby were healthy. He noted that despite the handicap, he was grateful to God for ?blessing the family with a very beautiful baby girl.?

He, however, appealed to government and well-meaning individuals to come to their aid to enable the family cater for the helpless child.

?This is a gift from God but it won?t be easy for us to raise Fatima because without legs and hands, she needs special care. We feel sorry for her but with the assistance from government and individual, I know that she will grow to live a good life.?

In his appeal, Chairman of the disables in the village, Abdullahi Gindi, who is blind, said it is the duty of society to ensure that Fatima is not discriminated against as a result of her condition.

?She needs to be assisted. We are grateful that she was born a healthy baby. But we need to protect her because her parents are poor� that is why we are calling for assistance so that Fatima will be alive.?
