12.30pm Money pours in for Rose Of The Moon

Will Hayler: There's a definite hint of Challenger Du Luc to the tennis I am watching as I type this. Tony McCoy could definitely give Andy Murray a lesson or two about putting a match to bed. For those of you watching the racing instead, don't worry as they'll probably still be thrashing away by the time the afternoon action draws to an end. An hour and a half for a set? For goodness sake.

Away from such frustrations, there's plenty of action to highlight in the markets this morning with bookmakers reporting a number of market movers (on Betfair, one could cynically add). Rose Of The Moon (3.10) is no bigger than 5-2 now, with 11-2 having been available initially when the race was first priced up on Thursday. Clearly the blinkers are expected to have a beneficial effect upon his prospects.

Also particularly popular is Old Way (2.10), who has shown precious little in two starts this season, but is 4-1 from 10-1 to show some improved form stepped up in trip at Huntingdon.

One more horse I would like to draw your attention to runs in the opener at Huntingdon. It would appear the handicapper has had enough of the number of Jonjo O'Neill-trained horses being given three quiet runs for a rating, with Saves Time (1.40) handed a punitive mark of 102 for his handicap debut despite being beaten more than 40 lengths in all three starts in run-of-the-mill novice hurdles.

Despite this, Saves Time is firm in the market at around 7-2 and is almost certainly capable of defying that rating somewhere down the line. The handicapper has, however, drawn a line in the sand.

Friday's best bets, by Will Hayler

It's a shame that Richard Johnson couldn't make it to Fontwell on Friday to present the prize (possibly to himself) for the Richard Johnson ? Fontwell's Champion Jockey 2011 Handicap Chase at 2.00. The naming of the race is a nice touch.

Instead Johnson has to go to Huntingdon to ride Allthekingshorses for his boss Philip Hobbs in the Pertemps Hurdle Qualifier. He was bitterly disappointing on his penultimate start but fared a little better with a tongue-tie on afterwards and it does look interesting that Hobbs has booked the main man to make the cross-country trek east.

However I'm putting my faith in Rose Of The Moon (3.10), who looks just the type to take a sizeable step forward in first-time blinkers. If the headgear helps him travel more willingly in the early part of the race, his stamina should come to the fore at the finish.

If Rose Of The Moon is to have any chance of getting into the weights for the final of this race at the Cheltenham Festival, he needs to win and win well here.

Property specialist David Maxwell takes a day away from doing big-money deals to ride the horse he owns, Pingaro De La Vire (3.40).

Maxwell has, by his own admission, no pretensions to making the grade as a professional. When the horse won first time out at Towcester, he told the crowd in an entertaining post-race interview that he reckoned he would come on for the run more than the horse.

So don't expect to see the next McCoy pushing and shoving away, but do expect to see a jockey who knows his mount inside out and a horse who handles testing conditions and should appreciate the move up to three miles.

Following 'unlucky' horses is a route only to continual disappointment, as discussed on numerous occasions on these pages, but I just can't walk away from Songbird Blues (2.20) who keeps finding ways to get beaten each time she carries my money, but who surely has the ability to break her duck before long.

She came from a long, long way back when fourth over course and distance last time but was finishing faster than anything else at the finish.

After that run, her trainer Mark Usher tweeted: "Songbird Blues was again unlucky. Should have won! She will win races! She needs just a small slice of luck in running!" I hope he's right.

Tipping competition, day five

Fatdeano landed what may have been the decisive punch yesterday with Arctic Ben (17-2), though Dangalf was among those to keep pace with him by picking the same winner. Notable doubles were achieved by SoberJones and Toptrapper (Arctic Ben plus Morgan Be at 10-1) as well as unfaircomment (Arctic Ben and Whaileyy 11-2).

Savoieblue, sorry for missing your 4-1 winner on Thursday.

Today, we'd like your tips, please, for these races: 2.20 Lingfield, 3.10 Huntingdon, 3.40 Huntingdon.

GET THOSE TIPS IN EARLY! In the event of a tie at the end of the week, the winner will be the tipster who, from among those tied on the highest score, posted their tips earliest on the final day.

IF YOU THINK YOU MAY HAVE WON, stand by your email from 5pm today, as we will need to contact you to arrange your prize.

This week's prize is generously offered by the Tote's owners, Betfred. It's 16 lines into Saturday's Scoop6, for which there will be a rollover of 240,000 in the win fund from last weekend.

As ever, our champion will be the tipster who returns the best profit to notional level stakes of 1 at starting price on our nominated races, of which there will be three each day up until Friday. Non-runners count as losers. If you have not joined in so far this week, you are welcome to do so today, but you will start on -12.
