Don?t be deterred by Boko Haram threats, Senate urges journalists

The Senate has condemned the recent attacks on some media houses by the Boko Haram, pledging to create an atmosphere of freedom and security for the media.

Speaking yesterday in Abuja during an interactive session with journalists, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu appealed to media practitioners in the country not to be intimidated by the attacks.

?I sympathize with you over the unfortunate attacks on some media houses in the past week. I am aware that this is part of the risks associated with your job, not just in Nigeria, but also internationally. We have seen journalists lose their lives in line of duties, in war zones and conflict situations.

?I would like to appeal to you that the attacks should not deter you from doing your work or bar you from your callings. We are with you at this time of mourning and we are prepared to join other well-meaning Nigerians to ensure that you do your work in the atmosphere of freedom and total security. Please accept my sympathies and those of the Nigerian Senate for the attacks that took place in Abuja and Kaduna,? Ekweremadu said.
