Aston Villa's Darren Bent back in training but misses rest of season

? Bent given all clear to start running after ankle problem
? Aston Villa striker highly unlikely to make England squad

Darren Bent has revealed he has received the all-clear to begin running and step up his recovery from the ankle ligament damage he suffered in February but there is no chance of him featuring again for Aston Villa this season and it remains highly unlikely the striker will go to the European Championship with England this summer.

Although Bent reported on Twitter that he was "buzzing" after a specialist told him he could start running, he remains six weeks away from playing, which is in keeping with the timescale Villa predicted after he picked up the injury.

With the England squad due to be announced on 29 May, three days after a friendly against Norway in Oslo, and Wayne Rooney suspended for the first two Euro 2012 matches, it would be a major surprise if Bent were selected.
