Championship round-up

Coventry remain bottom but achieve a shock 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough, while Leeds triumph over Ipswich

COVENTRY 3-1 MIDDLESBROUGH

Coventry remain bottom, but manager Andy Thorn was given a big lift by his Manchester City loanee Alex Nimely, who scored one goal and played a part in two. Middlesbrough played most of the game with 10 men after Kevin Thomson was sent off. Thorn said: "People hadn't heard of Alex before today. Well they have now. He's a real talent and I am so pleased that we could get him under the radar. Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray said: "We gave the ball away in some bad areas, but let's give them credit, rather than me being critical of my team."

LEEDS 3-1 IPSWICH

On a day of anti-Ken Bates protests, Ipswich's Paul Jewell had his own reasons to be angry, rebuking goalkeeper Alex McCarthy for his 71st-minute red card at Elland Road. The away side led until McCarthy raced out of his area and handled Ibrahima Sonko's headed back-pass ? after which Leeds scored three. "It was just a catalogue of errors," said Jewell. "We controlled the game until our keeper was sent off. Everyone makes mistakes but the mistakes we made were glaring errors."

AND THE REST

Millwall's manager Kenny Jackett praised his side's reaction to their recent 6-0 loss to Birmingham after they won 3-1 at Barnsley. ? Birmingham beat Watford 3-0 at home, moving into the top six for the first time this season. ? Crystal Palace, who fielded their reserves at Blackpool ahead of Tuesday's Carling Cup semi-final, were ahead until the 85th minute, then lost it 2-1. ? Doncaster remain on the ropes after losing 2-1 at Bristol City. ? Derby held Burnley 0-0. ? Cardiff capped a stirring comeback to beat Portsmouth 3-2 via a last-gasp winner from Craig Conway (right). ? Brighton secured a 2-1 win at Peterborough. ? And Reading, set to receive a significant Russian investment, lost 1-0 at home to Hull.
