INEC office bombed in Ekiti community

The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) located along Odooro road in Ikole community in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State was yesterday destroyed by substances suspected to be explosives.

INEC Public Relations Officer in the state Mr. Taiwo Gbadegesin and his police counterpart, Mr. Mohammed Jimoh in separate telephone chats with our correspondent, confirmed that the office was at about 10.00am destroyed by substances suspected to be explosives. They, however said that no life was lost.

Gbadegesin said that the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Alhaji Hussaini Pai, had led top officials of the commission to the place to assess the extent of damage done to the building.

Jimoh said that the state police command had deployed its bomb experts to the scene to ascertain what happened.

He said the security man attached to the INEC office had been apprehended and was assisting the command in its investigations into the incident.

It was gathered that when the bombers attacked the building, they had overpowered and threatened to kill the security man attached to the place.
