AMs called on to protect children

ASSEMBLY candidates have been called to stand up for children in the build-up to the elections and beyond.

Prospective AMs from across South Wales had the chance to support the NSPCC at its Swansea service centre this week.

They were invited to visit the base on Prince of Wales Road as part of the NSPCC's I stand for children campaign.

The bi-lingual campaign calls for election candidates to pledge their support to three key child protection measures: ensuring funding of frontline children's social services is protected; tackling child neglect; and ensuring that children are effectively protected from abuse in all sports settings in Wales.

So far, 91 Assembly candidates across Wales have signed up to support the online campaign.

NSPCC head of service for Wales, Des Mannion said: "We have already had a great response to the 'I stand for children' campaign and it was great that Assembly candidates took the time to attend our Swansea event."
